Abstract
The third doctoral report, taking the Liberty Alliance project as a case study in how single sign-on systems behave under denial of service. It classifies the SSO landscape (local and proxy-based pseudo-SSO against true SSO) and the properties each offers, then works through the Liberty protocols in detail: single sign-on and federation, name registration, federation termination notification, single logout and name identifier mapping, along with the XML signature, versioning and identifier-construction requirements they rest on. An appendix develops the threshold puzzle proposal, covering puzzle difficulty, an upper bound on it, a minimum response time and the resulting load on the server.
